When Should I Call the Office?
Questions frequently arise during pregnancy. A nurse/doctor is available during regular office hours. If you have an emergency call after the office has closed or on weekends, you will be forwarded to the answering service. Their staff will take your information and notify the physician on call who will then contact you.

You should contact the physician if any of the following occur:

  • Vaginal bleeding. Spotting during the first trimester is not uncommon and does not necessarily mean that a patient will miscarry. We will probably schedule an early ultrasound, though, to make sure the pregnancy is progressing normally.
  • The baby is not meeting his or her kick counts.
  • Any suspicious loss of fluid (i.e. your water broke)
  • Contractions. As you approach your due date, it is entirely normal to have some intermittent contractions. If your contractions are becoming regular, try to sit down, relax, and drink two 8 ounce glasses of water. Contractions that decrease in frequency or stop altogether are probably "false labor" and nothing to worry about. If the contractions are regular and uncomfortable, call the office when they are about five minutes apart.

Keep in mind, the above situations are only guidelines. Your are encouraged to call whenever you are concerned about your pregnancy.
